How do I format a hard drive? It's being used now but I want to wipe out everything and start new. How do I do this?
-
If you are going to install an Operating System to this hard drive then the OS will format it for you.
If it is an extra drive (not the one your OS is on) then all you need to do is delete everything on it.
-
Well, I just want to delete everything off this hard drive and install a clean, new operating system. How would I go about doing that?
-
098:
That depends on what operating system you are going to install and what operating system is currently installed.
-
It has Windows ME on it now and I want to re-instsall that too.
-
Just put your the CD to install ME in the CD drive and boot up. It'll ask you at one point what partition you want to install it on. If you don't want to save anything, delete all partitions, and then select the empty space to install the OS on. It'll ask you how you want to format it (FAT32, NTFS). I recommend NTFS and don't select Quick Format.

Load the recovery disk.....<.fat32.......>it will format the drive for you?.......
-
What's the difference between NTFS and FAT32?
-
WinMe does not support NTFS.
NTFS vs FAT (http://www.ntfs.com/ntfs_vs_fat.htm)
-
Shows how much I know about ME :P
