Title: Why does my internet explorer look like this?
Post by: winterfire83 on June 12, 2010, 09:39:32 AM
(http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/ad159/medasst/ex.jpg)

It didn't look like this yesterday or last night when i went to bed and turned off my computer. Got up earlier today and turned on computer and all that is at the top of the screen. I haven't downloaded anything or changed any settings. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get it back to looking normal?

Thanks :)

Hmm.  Did you try uninstalling IE and then reinstalling?  If that doesn't work you could use FireFox.

(but I much prefer IE)

Also, that appears to be IE7 (at least to me).  You could try getting IE8 or the new IE9 if your system supports it.

Your image appears to indicate you were downloading a file with IE.  Did IE return to normal once the download finished?

Hi,

I know you were saying that you didn't change any settings.  However, did you change any windows settings, this is different to internet settings for IE?

Welcome to Computer Hope by the way :)

I simply don't like IE. Firefox is the best browser available. Anyways, the solution for your problem is-- get IE uninstalled and then re-installed, you will get back normal, default look.

or try resetting internet explorer (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737) and see if problem goes away before doing the uninstalling/reinstalling.

As some are advocating an "uninstall " of IE you may wish to read this 1st.

It goes something like this. Browsers are selection of choice. You may prefer something else, but for some, IE is their preference. I given my reasons in other threads. I've tried many browsers, but for my use,( and obviously others) our preference is IE. And that's just the way it is.

I simply don't like IE. Firefox is the best browser available.
Obviously your opinion but not necessarily that of everyone else.

The topic of "which is the best browser" has been beaten to death.

It's like asking what's the best soft drink?  There is a million brands of soft drinks on the market because personal tastes are different.

and yet, ironically, the ingredients to all of them are the same.

Ingredients: Water, Sugar

sometimes they throw in colour to mess with your head. Sort of like how they colour margarine (well, not in the UK IIRC, it's illegal there) because people find it "tastes" more like butter when the colours are similar.

If you think about it, liking one browser better then another is nothing more then a form of brand loyalty.

Not to disagree but don't you think that loyalty comes from experience? Yours or others that you trust. And wouldn't you agree that the longer a product has been around the more evidence that product provides. Way back when, I was loyal to Ford. But by chance I purchased a Chev. Liked them both, so now I drive both. Now, loyal to Ford and loyal to Chev. Think now though that we're getting a little off topic. ;)

No it isn't (not now anyhow), but as with all foods sold for human consumption only permitted colouring agents (e.g. carotene) may be used. This is an EU-wide thing. Where margarine colouring is or was banned this was because the dairy industry didn't like the competition and wanted to put margarine, which is naturally coloured white, at a disadvantage. At one time dyeing margarine yellow was allowed in 26 US States and forbidden in the others. Kraft used to sell a Parkay margarine in two versions: yellow for those 26, and white for the rest, with a little sachet of yellow dye included. The purchaser had to put the margarine in a plastic ("Color-Kwik") bag together with the dye and knead the contents to spread the colour evenly. In fact there were federal restrictions on margarine until 1950. Wisconsin, the cheese state, was the last anti-margarine hold out (till 1967).

In the UK, I don't know about elsewhere, you can buy deep yellow products which are butter/margarine mixtures with names like "Utterly Butterly" and "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" "Better'n Butter", "Heavenly Butterly" etc, and in fact some butter is dyed to make it more appealing. At home we use a spread made with olive oil and milk whey called Olivio.

The lady in the lower picture looks like she's been rubbing the dye in her hair...

The breadcrumbs could possibly lead us back to margarine. Breadcrumbs? Margarine? Sorta fits. Before you know it, Hey, we're back on topic  ;D.
