Title: Windows.old file in Win 7 upgrade install...
Post by: Hankster58 on June 21, 2010, 08:05:05 PM
The question is, can I delete it?? A bit over 10 gigs of waste if it's not needed.  This was an UPGRADE from Vista install. Was done 12/07/09..... all is well, Windows 7 is great!! Kind of forgot about it, until doing system scans, and saw it scanning all the .old stuff....
So, since it's run for 6 months now, is it deletable?? Or are there "used" parts the system needs from there?? I know nothing about the needs/use of the .old backup, once the install is completed. Is it there in case of the install failing or what???
Thanks in advance....

Yes.  You can safely delete it now. Reference: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/How-do-I-remove-the-Windows-old-folder
