hi.i recently acquired my dads old pc.with it i got the original monitor and a newish flatscreen one.the original monitor was working when i got it but i broke a few pins in the lead so now i cant see what i am doing so that i can install the driver for my new monitor..what do i do!?!?
-
You don't need a driver for a display to work.
-
ok.when i plug in the lead for the monitor nothing comes on but when i plug it out it turns on and goes into a colour test.any ideas why it not working?
-
The system needs to be OFF when you plug in the display. Then power on the display first, then the computer.
By the way, how do you break pins on a display connector?
-
i had it in the car and i must have got it caught in the car door or something??its an old monitor with the display lead attached so couldnt replace it.
not trying to look stupid or anything but there is definitely no way i would need a driver for the monitor?
thanks for your help

Some displays do have drivers, but they ALL work just fine without one. Otherwise, how could you install the driver?
-
yeah thats what i was trying to figure out..
thanks very much for your help...first day on the forum but il definitely be back!
-
Sorry I wasn't of more help.
-
I have now tried 3 different monitors with the computer but not one of them work.starting to think it must be the machine itself.it turns on no problem but the monitor just not picking up any signal
-
Sounds like you may need to replace the video card.
-
ok.are they expensive?and would i get them in any computer shop?
-
Price rages depending on what you want - just like anything else. You'll find the best prices on the web. Open device manager and let us know what your current display adapter is.
-
but i cant open anything on the computer because i cant see anything on the screen?
-
Okay. Open the computer and tell look at the card to which the display is currently connected (first disconnect the system from power).
-
ok.i dont have the computer at hand right now but when i do that and find out what i need and replace it then it should work right away right?its just a matter of plugging it in yeah?
-
If indeed that's the problem, yes. But you should also install the driver (it should be on a disk that accompanies the card)
-
ok thanks very much.il let you no how i get on.
