Title: dual monitors
Post by: iain13 on July 12, 2010, 01:50:43 PM
I was looking into the prospect of setting up my desktop with an additional monitor.
I have a geforce fx 5500 graphics card with a VGA and a DVI output

Is it possible to have 2 monitors coming from the same graphics card? Will my card support this?

Regards,

I have not bought another monitor yet
I wanted to check if it would be compatible first.

I take it you can have 2 monitors plugged into the same graphics card then using different output sockets?

Yes, your card will support dual monitors.  One monitor must, of course, be VGA.  The monitor connected to the DVI port can either use a DVI cable or a VGA cable indirectly connected to the DVI port by using a DVI-to-VGA adapter between the computer and the monitor cable.

Note: your card may not support monitors with very high resolutions, such as 1980 x 1200 but anything lower should work.
