Are there any methods to reduce ping with the use of some time of software?
I'm using a dongle at the moment and the ping reaches 150 - sometimes 1000. :S

Using a wireless dongle, your ping will be high, it's the nature of those things.
To reduce your ping, go wired.

Can you please explain the nature of Ping?
I mean, are you trying to PING your DNS servers, some other website, default gateway..?
Changing DNS servers & using technology as encompassed within Opera's Browser does significantly reduces high ping times effect. 8)
Choose Opera web browser, enable TURBO mode &...Zoom...your web-pages will render at a Ferrari speed! :o

Ping is mainly identified in gaming, as i do alot of it. Going wired WILL NOT improve ping. Well it will, but buy 1-2Ms per 10 M of cable.(Go up) There is no way of improving your ping, unless you live closer to where the site/game is hosted.

I ment, each 10 meter of cable used, you will loose 1-2Ms. Lowering your ping. Regards.

Ditto.... You may experience ping issues if you're hooked up to your router with a 100m ethernet cable, but it wouldn't be a large impact.

you didn't test it very well. First, we're talking about a wireless dongle.
Second, the length of a cat5 cable has zero effect on ping time. I just did some tests myself.

the long cable has a lower average ping time then the short cable.
I wonder, if maybe this is perhaps related to the fact that the signals arrive at the speed of light? causing not only imperceptible "delays" based on cable length but entirely unmeasurable ones as well, likely in the area of yocto-seconds, if anything.

Not much difference there. Ping time in a game is calculated by the delay between when the server sends out a packet to when the client receives it. clearly the actual connection (dial-up, DSL, Broadband) as well as the condition of the networks the packet has to pass through will have more impact then the length of a cord.

Actually, it's a common misconception that signals in a cable travel at the speed of light.
The term velocity of propagation measures how fast a signal travels in a cable as compared to the same signal in a vacuum, which would be the speed of light.
In a cat 5 cable or twisted pair, this can be as low as 40% of the speed of light (which is still pretty fast). In coaxial cable and fiber the averages are about double that depending on a number of factors.

If you don't have any cat 5 or 6 cables laying around to try, check with your friends. A lot of people have spares that they are not using.
Try it and see what happens.

Part of your problem is your upload speed. Generally you want a somewhat higher number than that. Since that updates you in your gaming enviroment

Fiber-to-Home is the only answer to maintain a SYNC. b/w upload & download rates. 8)

No... You could get the upload speed match your download speed, but I dunno in other countries but here you can max get 1mb upload, due to piracy thing.
So if you want 2mb download you need a other ISP, right now I have 2 different ISP and I can get 2mb up and 500mb down, and they both go trough my phone line, also note that I live 10 miles from the town.

Are you serious? You live at around 17Km from the Local exchange & you get 500Mbps as a 'Download' rate?
Nah...it must be 50Mbps, Copper lines do support above that rate via VDSL.
Post the speedtest.net result ASAP, with screenshots.

No, it should bee 500Mb/s down and 1Mb/s up, but the limit on the upload is only because I don't live in a city, if I was in a city I would get so much the deal with my ISP is.
Screen btw, (tho I could not get a reading from speedtest.net, I had to use bredbandskollen.se) The distance is ~ 100 miles

The speed wasn't 500 but I guess it was some load on it... And yea, the phone line was laid 2008, and it's not fiber.

I only get 0.33Mb/s upload so I can barley play any online games, on cod I have 200ping, WoW I get 30ms but sometime 1k+ so sometimes I can't do so much... So I would gladly trade my current connection to 10Mb/s down and 10Mb/s up.
So whats the point to have a huge Download when you can't upload anything?

And too think I used to play games using 56kbps download and 36kbps upload without any problems whatsoever.
Ping times are mostly relating to your distance from the server, as well as the load on your own LAN and the network of your ISP. It's usually unrelated to download and upload speed.
On the other hand, it could just be that games today have very badly thought out protocols.

Nevertheless, I can atleast boast of faster upload rate than Frejoh, mine is 0.43Mbps.
Download roughly stands at 1.77Mbps on an average BUT my ISP is always rated B at Pingtest.net owing to greater 'Jitter' rate :-\
& practically, I do sometimes observe high latency(slow response time) on clicking a web link.

I've read reports of GB speeds over copper in the labs, but I don't think there are any real world applications of it yet.
The phone companies have an incredible amount of money invested in copper wiring world wide and they are trying to get the most out of it.

Well I don't know if they made it extra thick, (or if it even is copper) but they laid it just because they are building a new village with 50+ hoses.
