Title: cpu usage

(Please bear in mind that I'm fairly computer-illiterate, but am trying really hard to learn and understand, and I even run a quite busy website).

Anyway, I've noticed that over the past few weeks my cpu is very unstable (gets up to 380+ then can suddenly drop massively down til it can even get to '0'...which is when the computer just 'freezes' and I have to do a hard shut-down and subsequently lose much of what I was working on  ??? ).

I just read in your FAQ's about CPU and 'Heat Sinks'...Gulp.  I think I got the gist of it, and cleaned (as much as I could without opening the Tower;  unplugged everything and re-plugged). ( I would mention that I'm in a rural area and so, not much in the way of local  tech assistance available). 

Would appreciate any assistance.

Thankyou Broni, but I wouldn't have a clue...it is a 'Smart Ram' thingy that sits on my Tool Bar (Advanced System Care - which I've had for over a year now), and all I can say is that when I start up my pc, it shows the percentage of RAM free, and the percentage of CPU free.   Recently (last few weeks), it can take an hour or more to get steady enough to get online. 

I dunno.  Probably shouldn't have asked.

Have you tried right clicking and exiting the progarm (Adcanced System Care), there is no need to have it running.

How much RAM have you got on your computer?? ( At a guess i'm saying 512 MB)

Download Process Explorer: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
Unzip ProcessExplorer.zip, and double click on procexp.exe to run the program.
Click on View > Select Colunms.
In addition to already pre-selected options, make sure, the Command Line is selected, and press OK.
Go File>Save As, and save the report as Procexp.txt.
