Title: Adobe Flash Player problem (please help!)
Post by: Cassidy624 on September 17, 2010, 07:10:54 PM
About a week or two ago, I lost Adobe Flash Player on my laptop.  I have no idea how this happened.  I went on to the Adobe website to try and re-install it.  However, the Adobe download manager says that Flash Player was downloaded successfully, but no flash content shows after that.  I have tried manually installing it, following all of the trubleshooting instructions, and even uninstalling it and reinstalling it again.  Nothing has worked.  It just keeps saying that it was installed successfully, but still no flash content shows.  Are there any other ways to fix this?  I would really appreciate some help.

I had that same problem. I don't remember exactly how did I fix it. What I did is
Code: [Select]
Go to Tools
Then Manage Add-Ons
Then Click Toolbars and Extensions
Then Click All add-ons
Then Rite-Click Shockwave Flash Object And click Enable
Then Click Clos
Good Luck.

Are you using 32 bit or 64 bit Windows 7?
If you're not sure which one you have, you can click start, then right click computer and select properties.

Why not use the 32 bit IE like most people do? It is more compatible.

is there a way to switch to 32 bit?

is there a way to switch to 32 bit?

The 32-bit IE was your default browser unless you changed it.

go to this folder...

C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer

highight this program which is in it...

iexplore.exe

right click, drag to the desktop and choose "create shortcut here"

Delete/ignore any other shortcuts which you may have lying around

i'm not sure what version of internet explorer, but it's 64 bit.
To find it go to Help > About Internet Explorer. Flash Player does not work with 64 bit browsers at the minute so, you use the standard IE.

I don't think flash player installs to an Adobe folder in the program files.
Do you have Adobe Reader install? If you do that's why you probably see an Adobe folder

I know I have the pdf reader installed, and Adobe Download Manager installed also.  I've tried to install flash player, but it never shows after it says that it was installed successfully.

When you click start then all programs, there should be two internet explorers. Do you see two of them there?

yes. there's internet explorer (64-bit) and internet explorer.  flash doesn't work on either one of them.

Did you make any changes to your computer right before this started? Did you install any programs or download anything?

Have you tried system restore yet?

i don't quite remember if i downloaded anything before this happened.  i did run the system restore to see if it would come back, but it didn't.  do you know if system restore, restores a computer to it's original settings when i was first used or if it only works from the last thing you downloaded?

ah. never mind. the article says 90 days.  but yeah, system restore was one of the first things i tried, and i didn't get flash player back.

I think currently, there is only the 32 bit version of flash player. In that case, 64 bit Internet Explorer can't use it.

But Adobe is rolling out a 64 bit version of flash player so pretty soon 64 bit internet explorer can use it.

I think it's not out yet (unless someone posts me a link verifying i'm wrong).

That should be the reason why you can't see flash videos on 64 bit IE even though you have flash player installed

This is inaccurate at best...32bit Flash runs fine on 64bit systems...
Think before hitting the Post button...

Use the Flash uninstaller Here... (http://google.ad.sgdoubleclick.net/pagead/nclk?sa=L&ai=1&fadurl=googleads.g.doubleclick.net&u=http%3A%2F%2Fkb2.adobe.com%2Fcps%2F141%2Ftn_14157.html&aclck=http%3A%2F%2Ffreesearchware.com%2Findex.php%3Fsearch%3Dflash%2Buninstaller)

Then reboot and reinstall a fresh version...

Have you tried any web browsers other than IE?

If you go to http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/, what does that page tell you?

IE is the only web browser I have.  Do you think if I download another browser, flash would work?
Title: Re: Adobe Flash Player problem (please help!)
Post by: soybean on September 22, 2010, 08:02:05 AM
Yes.  I suggest Firefox  (http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/)since it's an easier transition from IE, but you could also try Chrome or Opera.  I have IE8 and Firefox on my laptop.  Each browser must be separately updated with Flash.  So, having a problem with Flash is one browser does not mean the other browser will have a problem with Flash.

But, here's something to consider regarding Chrome (http://www.google.com/chrome/index.html?hl=en&brand=CHMA&utm_campaign=en&utm_source=en-ha-na-us-bk&utm_medium=ha).  It's bundled with Flash.  In other words, if you download and install Chrome, Flash will is automatically installed at the same time.

Patio, I said 64 bit internet explorer can't use 32 bit flash player,

I never said that 64 bit windows can't use 32 bit flash player.

Two different things. Did you read that wrong???

I agree, but I've got to add my two cents worth.

Of all the stuff I've downloaded over the years, I've had more problems with flash than any other program.  I'm sure that's one of the reasons Apple avoids using flash.

I also read today that Adobe stock is at it's lowest level in years.

And it's all related.

Adobe is working with Microsoft to resolve Flash Player installation issues with Internet Explorer 7 Protected Mode on Windows Vista.

Note: This issue may affect users with Flash Player 9.0.28.0 and later. Flash Player 9.0.28.0 is the first version to support Windows Vista

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/401/kb401499.html

The issue is more about installing and viewing flash contents since IE7 on Windows Vista. If this is resolved in this link, there are some solutions presented that may be related or vary on IE8.

on a last note, if everyone were using chrome, then you'd get less issues with flash.

Why Apple doesn't just offer google chrome for people who want flash but otherwise you don't get it. Would that have helped?

It can't. In fact no 64-bit program can even load a 32-bit library. That in and of itself is the source of the problem.

Same old stuff that happened with the 16-bit -> 32-bit switch, only now there are a lot more people using PCs on a daily basis.

on a last note, if everyone were using chrome, then you'd get less issues with flash.

Why?

I meant to say, it already comes with flash so you don't need to install it or upgrade it or whatever. It's done for you automatically.
