Title: motherboard not alligning with holes in case
Post by: ubersoldier87 on September 21, 2010, 09:15:09 PM
I have an NZXT M59 mid-tower case and an MSI 870A-G54 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard. I put the IO shield on the case, alligned the mobo with it, but none of the holes in the case are alligning with those in the mobo. Can anyone help?

You might need to move your standoffs around.

I'm confused about those, what are they exactly? Are they the little screws that came with the case? I don't see how I could move them around if the holes in the case don't match up with the mobo.

I foresee frustration and possibly quite a lot of smoke in your near to medium future...

Standoffs -- i believe-- are the screws that are long enough so that you are able to screw down your mobo. Sometimes you won't use all screws/screw holes on a chassis unless your mobo was made specifically for that case.

Stand offs look like ^ BTW.

Aha, yes I have those. And when I saw them I attached them and managed to get 6 to match with the mobo, is that adequate?

Yes...though 8 is ideal...

Yeah, perferably you'd want to screw down the mobo fully but unless they don't align with the chassis then you can only make do with what you have.

That motherboard has 6 mounting holes, they have the "star" pattern around them.

You are using the IO shield that came with the Motherboard, and not the one that came with the case (if any)?
