Title: windows 7 system restore taking hours
Post by: windowshell on January 25, 2011, 05:06:42 AM
I started a system restore on windows 7, at 3:30pm in the afternoon, its now 11pm, its still going ?? (on my laptop, 64 bit, quadcore, 6 gig ram), the system restore was dated from the 23rd or 24th, only 1 or 2 days, since those dates I have installed several softwares and done a lot of copy pasting of documents and downloads. loading lots of files onto my ipad etc, but I think system restore only changes the windows operating system and drivers to back where they were previously correct? It doesnt uninstall softwares or delete all your created documents since that time?? I hope not..  :o

regardless is it usual for system restores to take this amount of time?  :-\ 7plus hours,, for only 1 or 2 days,

I tried pressing the power off button but that only made it hibernate, this after 5 hours.. then when turned back on from hibernate it continued system restore,

the screen reads "PLEASE WAIT WHILE YOUR WINDOWS FILES AND SETTINGS ARE BEING RESTORED, SYSTEM RESTORE IS INITIALIZING." I hope that doesnt mean its not even started yet lol !!.

It should only take a minute or two.
