Title: All boot disks fail on booting.
Post by: MrNeedHelp on February 03, 2011, 10:56:53 AM
So, i wasn't sure where to post this since it kind of all around problem but it ends with boot disks not working so this is where it ended up : ) sorry if it is in wrong part of forum.

Ok, so the problem started when i turned my computer off one day, then when i went to turn it back on it would turn on then off, and do that 3 times then stay on and start to load up windows normally. But would freeze right before the windows loading bar would start moving.  So i tried safe mode , safe mode with command prompt and both freeze at disk.sys. Then someone told me might be power supply since the whole turn off turn on thing. So i got a PSU tester from a friend and that came back without a fault. So i went on to try 1 ram stick at a time with no help there then i did a SMART extended self-test on the harddrive (which took 2+ hours) through bios which came back without error. From there i said screw it maybe a windows file is corrupt. So first i tried a window 7 install disk which freezes after loading files and where the windows starting screen is. Then i tried a windows xp home disk and it goes bosd after loading files. Then i tried windows vista recovery disk which freezes at windows loading screen as well. Then i said what the heck i'll try Redhat 8.0 that loads up to the install proccess then says there are no harddrives on the computer. Now the fact that i can start loading windows from the hard drive and the fact that i came back without errors tells me that it is connected and working fine but is just crashing when loading windows. All my fans are running so don't think it is a overheating issue and i was running cpuid hardware monitor before this all happened and my cpu would max at 62C on a full load and evething else was running a cooler temp. i've tried all reseting all the connection in the computer and that didn't fix the problem. So at this point i'm out of ideas and looking for any input that might help other then buy a new computer which seems to the most popular idea these days.

Not really worried about anything on the computer and willing to do a format on the drive but i can't seem to get to that point by boot disk.

Any options i'm over looking would be great help.

Oh, also ran HP cpu test, memory test, and hard drive test all without errors.

We don't like bumping on here. If you are the only person on every forum you visit who (a) bumps (b) does so after 58 minutes (!) then that might explain things. When you bump a thread you started, many people will see that as you shouting for attention, demanding to go to the front of the line, and whining when you don't get an answer within a short period. Human nature being what it is, many people at this point will decide not to help you even if they may know what the answer is.

In addition, your post appears to be saying "I don't want to see any answers that suggest I buy a new computer", in other words, you are specifying in advance what answers you want to get. That puts people off too. You may be in what I call "hardware failure denial syndrome", that is if anybody says "Your CPU or RAM or motherboard or hard drive may be flaky" you put your hands over your ears and repeat "La la la I can't hear you I just want to format my hard drive".
