Title: Password protected Bios
Post by: Bert184 on April 03, 2011, 09:12:34 AM
Hello there.

I just manage to score a nice desktop computer, with Windows XP SP3 in it, it's working fine, but I have my own Genuine Windows XP SP2 set up disk.

However when I tried to go into the Bios, I was stopped by Password. This does not occur when I normally boot up windows, only on the Bios. Which I find annoying. Like to do things myself.

Any help in this regards.

Much appreciated.

On a desktop you can usually remove a BIOS password by unplugging the computer and removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes.  Then put battery back and plug in and start up--you should be prompted to set the date and time in BIOS.  (CMOS battery is a quarter coin sized, watch-type battery which should be easy to find on the motherboard.)

How did you "score" this computer? If you bought it from the legal owner, they should be able to supply you with the BIOS password.
