Title: black screen on start up ???????

as soon as I turn computer the screen goes black curser top left blinking no keys work.  the only keys that work are f2 on startup that gets me to the system setup.  F8 dosent work  help anyone ??????  no recovery disc

What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?

under boot it is listed <WCD WD2500JS-22N>  guess it is a part number ??

nothing new worked night before next morning had blue screen with writing on it ( i didnt c it so dont know what it said) it was restarted and no here we r

When the system first boots start tapping the F8 function key and that should take you to the advanced boot options screen. From there, see if you can get to either safe mode or "Last Known Good configuration". If neither works, you'll have to check to see if your system has a recovery option / partition.

What is the brand and model of your computer?

Some computers have an option to run hard drive diagnostics in system setup. Does yours? If so, run it.

it is a gateway gt5404 intel pentium  no topic to run that

if restore is there a way to get photos from my computer ??????? that is all i really want

You can try slaving your drive to another system to recovery files.
