Title: Black screen
Post by: beatlejuice on June 12, 2011, 07:13:52 PM
Hope someone may have the golden answer as i know this can mean several things. I get a black screen at boot up (turn on ) & just the fan going fast. I have probably damaged areas by now as the only cure i've found is by taking out battery & mains & trying over & over, sometimes 20 times for it to boot up normally..It shouldn't be O/S xp as it doesn't get that far ?. I have no O/S disks either or manufacture disks. Research so far points to corrupt bios, loose ram conn, cmos, registry?..F2 or F8,10 keys pressed at start up does zilch. Would removing cmos battery for 20mins help ?..Is there a FREE bios scan AND fix available ?..Registry fix ?.. I'm still leaning towards bios issues but i am far from being an expert . Being an old " icom ability 1300 A, intel celeron 350 " laptop, i've opened 2 access areas on the base but none reveal the cmos battery. Has a QCI-EF6 motherboard, phoenix bios Q3B81 vers. The everest scan has nothing under m/board chipset??.. Not game to turn off anymore which is a worry as most fixes need to reboot.

Any ideas are gladly received, thanx

Is this the same PC on the other thread about driver problems? What components did you found out removed that you made the laptop boot up normally?

yes jason, same comp but this black screen has just been getting worse for the last 6weeks.. I think i'm just hard on most things.. if they dont cooperate i turn them off when i want not when the *censored* things decides its ready to or frozen on some site somewhere..this is the price i pay but we are a slave to these things as it is i reckon.. Besides changing my temperament & patients, you have any ideas as to bios ?

As for a hardware question :

Could you please further explain here. I understand you were able to acquire all proper drivers for your Icom laptop but now you were having freezing issues on the net?

The components that i  installed / removed were not an issue RE; boot up. The black screen thing has been doing that for some time. The drivers installed were to solve my lack of audio-multimedia..They are working fine now, installed intel realtekAC97 & finally sound works. The freezing issues are incidental, just when it rarely happens i might force shutdown the comp. Do you think i have bios issues >>>?

i know it will sound stupid, but check again the connection between the battery and laptop
sometimes the connections losses (( losses and then starts and then again losses ) so its don't letting system turn it on)

Are you sure that the FAN making sound?
