Title: Epson scanner problem
Post by: Lynne on August 27, 2005, 06:04:26 PM
Running win98se. Epson perfection 1250 scanner

Hope you can help.

Just had computer in the "fixers" for a check over and now my scanner won't work. I have tried re-installing (which meant removing existing files) now it is saying that ISMDLL.dll cannot be found so the "scan to file" won't work on my scanner.

Can I find this file anywhere?

I'm not technical in the slightest so be gentle with me!!

Thanks
Lynne

Hello, Lynne. Can you recall what they have done to your computer?

You may need to reinstall the drivers for the scanner. Try downloading the latest drivers from the manufacturers webpage.

You might like to go to Driver Guide Windows it list just about every driver for all hardware

I've now downloaded another driver and nothings changed. When I try to open the epson Smart Panel (which gives you the choice of tasks) I am still getting the notice " A required .dll file ISMDLL.dll was not found ".

I have checked through the installation disk I got with the software and there is no ISMDLL.dll file on that disk so I can only presume it is a seperate file that belongs to Windows or such like.

Now I'm stuck!!

The .DLL file seems entirely related to Epson. Have you tried reinstalling this control panel or does it come with the drivers?

Hi Raptor,

I have tried to install the whole thing twice now. (installation disk - autorun) It says it needs to un-install all existing files to be able to re-install, I click OK. The only thing I haven't done is remove/un-install Epson folder manually before re-installing. Didn't think it would make a difference.

Where did you get that path in your last post from? Surely if the .dll file is entirely related to epson it should be on the installation disk?

grrrrrrrrrrrr........

Just remembered that when I was at the "fixers" (I use that term loosely) they said I had 400 somethings in my registry and cleaned that up.......have they deleted something important?

They were that good they installed a new sound card for me and it doesn't work!! And the original problem of getting a notification of "a fatal error number 016. ?????? has occured" etc whenever I am using graphic programmes, is still happening.

I will go back to them next week, guns blazing, but I have some important work to do today so rather miffed and desperate!!

If the computer is still under warranty, return it!
