Title: Why I got a GeForce 210.
Post by: Transfusion on August 07, 2011, 09:00:03 AM
I know that the GeForce 210, regardless of the manufacturer, is simply not suited for gaming; I bought it for occasional/moderate gaming purposes because I personally am satisfied with low-resolution, low-detail graphics, and because it was a second-hand and up for grabs for about ¥100 (about equal to $15.54 USD from Yahoo! Conversion). It has 256 MB GDDR3 RAM, turbo-cached to 1GB. I run my PC overnight a few days every week for Folding@Home and iTunes movie downloading purposes-folding a 15000 workunit it takes about 10 hours, for a 10000 unit the time varies between 6-9 hours.
http://www.nvidia.com/page/turbocache.html (http://www.nvidia.com/page/turbocache.html) Why Turbo-Cached GPU Mem is not equal to Onboard GPU Mem.
The GPU delivers a decent overclock: 25% Core Speed OC, 15% Mem OC, and 25% Shader OC. I definitely could push both my CPU and GPU higher-the GPU’s temps never pass 55 C on load, but I have a 350 W brand less PSU, have my Athlon II X2 240 running at 3.72 GHz, and still use the AMD stock HSF. (CPU temps are 42-45C, temps on load never pass 60 C. Motherboard temps never pass 70 C.) I figured I wouldn’t be too greedy and risk burning out this cheapskate GPU and possibly the rest of the PC and be satisfied with a good balance between CPU and GPU speed. I use EVGA Precision for overclocking because it has the ability to auto-apply clock speed at boot. ATITool for some reason always causes my PC to BSOD after I pass the 640 MHz Core speed mark.

So a few (not very stellar) benchmarks that want to share.

My entire PC (excluding the monitor) cost ¥1645, which according to Yahoo! is $255.4 USD. Pretty nice.
