Title: Packard Bell Pentium D using windows XP: Tower Unit - fan very noisy
Post by: kennymcd277 on August 08, 2011, 01:47:20 PM
Hi, My PC is a Packard Bell Pentium D tower unit and is very noisy when running. As this is driving me mad I am trying to find out why. First of all can anyone tell me if the fan speed readings I am getting are correct for this computer. They are as follows:

Sys Fan       0 RPM
CPU0 Fan     2909 RPM
Aux0 Fan      0 RPM
CPU1 Fan      0 RPM
Aux1 Fan       0 RPM

Are these readings correct? It seems that only one fan is working??? Any other help to cure this noisy fan would be much appreciated. Thanks

do you mean grinding or just loud. if it's grinding, then try some wd40. if its just loud, was it always that way?

How many fans do you have?  If they're not connected directly to the motherboard, they won't show up.  If a little dust gets into the fan  bearings, it can get very loud.  WD40 might work for a short time, but will assist in locating the bad fan.
