If anyone fancies a look at Windows 8 the developer iso can be downloaded here.

for a tablet it's cool but a desktop is wonky... friends have tested it and it was wierd on a desktop.

may fire up vmware to test it though.

I installed it on the Intel system in my specs.

I haven't figured out how to end programs (in the tablet mode) conveniently yet-I use Task Manager to do so.  ;D
Are all the apps you launch supposed to continue running in the background or something?

Another thing I despise is the lack of a proper start button and menu. It is pretty wonky when you install programs-I haven't figured out how to create shortcuts in the tablet mode, and I really hate the lack of a "My Computer" icon. I don't like switching back and forth between the tablet mode and the desktop mode.

Driver support wasn't a problem-the Win 7 drivers worked perfectly fine.

Actually, I just had something of an idea- I wonder if the Windows 7 explorer would work on Windows 8?

The win95 Explorer worked for Windows 98.

The good people from the Windows Seven Forums have already started a Win8 version...

Didn't see anything yet about using the old Explorer in Win8 however there is a tutorial on creating a Start menu in the Metro view...

There is a better mod available, that edits the registry and BRINGS BACK the proper start menu when you press the windows icon. It also gives the option to remove metro completely.

And windows explorer is there, but it is all updated and new. With an office-2010 style toolbar, and built in unzipping and iso extract as standard.

We don't normally recommend people go mucking about in the registry if there is an alternative method...

The one i suggested i tested on the 32bit Developers build and works like a charm.

Windows Explorer is the task that handles the start menu.
