Title: Question about win 7 32 bit and 64bit
Post by: jeff9353 on September 23, 2011, 02:41:34 PM
I went from win 7 home 32 bit to win 7 ultimate 64 bit and it seems like my computer is slower. Also I'm getting this message from time to time something to the effect of away mode. Could this be causing my comp. to be slow. Thanks

You only have one gig of RAM? What brand /model is your PC?

You posted your RAM as 1 MB, but as Jason posted I'm sure you mean 1 GB.  That's not enough RAM to run win 7 very well.  4GB is a good number.  To check on what you could add go to to crucial.com and run their memory test.

http://www.crucial.com/ (http://www.crucial.com/)

You will find that your machine runs much better with more RAM.

It would have been cheaper to stay with Windows 7 Home and just upgrade RAM, tbh

I just ran a benchmark test on both my 32 and 64 bit builds....there was little or no difference at all.

Don't interrupt it when running...let it run to completion.
Post your score afterwards...

Sounds like possibly missing drivers after the change.

I think I'm going to get some more ram. I ran the test for more memory at Crucial and It said my maximum memory is 8.
Also is the a program in windows to where you can check to see if all your drivers are up to date.
Thanks for the replies

Well, you could do that with a third-party program with Drivermax, but I would rather trust the drivers straight from the manufacturer's site. Can you go into Device Manager and check if there are any yellow exclamation marks?

Patio I ran a Passmark benchmark test and came up with this.
BurnInTest Certificat 09/30/11

I didn't have a CD or DVD in my drive and I thought that was why this drive failed.
And I just have DSL for internet.

Also I checked my drivers and the only one that failed was:
Unknown: Acpi\awy0001 and another one under this one was :awyooo1.
I looked this up and the only thing I came up with was a chip driver, what ever that is.
Thanks again for all the help (EVERYONE) here at computerhope that helping.

easiest way to explain what the problem is, is that your ram, while effectively handling larger instruction sets via 64bit sets instead of 32, it cant handle as many in the same time, so basically your ram is half as effective using 64bit then it is on 32bit.

That makes no sense at all.

Looking at the posts here, I see a marketing opportunity for Microsoft.

They could offer a special trial 48 bit  version of Windows 7.

Quote
Try The Windows n7 Junior 48 bit version for 30 days free.
Can't decide if you want 32 bit or 64 bit? Try 48 bit before you decide.
Has most of then features of 32 bit.
Does not have the burden of 64 bit.
Use your 32 bit programs with the free bit stretch utility.

Order either on mini DVD or download.
(The 48 bit version only comes on mini DVD.)

In the original post and reply no 2 he said he was on Win7 but as you see, in no.17 it's Vista.

Thank you ST. I thought i may have been missing something. However i would be interested to hear from the O/P given the results of the test he ran (#17) how it was and may indeed still remain that HE believes he is (and was prior to his supposed change to 64 bit win 7) using windows 7? His original inquiry seems to emanate from something that never occurred (either the 32 bit or the 64 bit). Did the O/P simply mistake the operating system he had installed on the computer? truenorth

jeff9353, Your last post #27 has left me still confused. In your post #17 (which is your test results from the Passmark test you have this ="Operating system    Windows Vista Ultimate Edition Service Pack 1 build 7601" Then in your last post referring again to a Passmark test result you have this="Operating system    Windows 7 Ultimate Edition Service Pack 1 build 7601". Are you posting Passmark results from two different computers? Plus in fact the post in #17 is the 1st time we see the o/s mentioned as Vista (you had posted the issue as being with WIN 7 (32/64 bit)). I assume the Passmark results were NOT typed by you but are a copy from the actual test. Therefore again where do these 2 different Passmark tests come from?truenorth

Truenorth, I sorry for for mistype. The OS I have is Win 7 Altimate. Sorry for all the confusion. I don't know why I type Vista in the passmark test. But what I did was went from Win 7 Home 32 bit to win 7 altimate 64 bit.

The OS I have is Win 7 Altimate.

If it spells "Altimate" like that, it may be a fake!

Ok i think i can sleep better tonight. It appears that jeff9353 has NOT been posting the copy of the Passmark tests as i would have expected but instead has been typing them himself FROM the displayed text of the reports. Therefore that being so it is HIS typing error (?????) that is the basis of the O/S's being presented as they were. Probably also explains the observation that ST is making as well "If it spells "Altimate" like that, it may be a fake!" I think i shall politely excuse myself from further involvement in this thread. Best of luck to those that stay on.truenorth
