I have a problem with the DVD drive on my Dell Inspiron 1525. If I put a disk in it, music or data, the computer does not recognize there is a disk there and comes up with "Please insert disc into drive E"
Device manager tells me, "This device is working properly".
I ran Dell diagnostics and it came up with "Error Code 0147. Error 2000-0147. Spindle Test Failed".
I tried removing the DVD drive and cleaning with compressed air. But same result.
Also, the DVD drive no longer opens by just pressing the switch. I have to put a pin in the small hole next to the switch to release it.
Does this mean that I need a new DVD drive or is it something that can be rectified please?

...I ran Dell diagnostics and it came up with "Error Code 0147. Error 2000-0147. Spindle Test Failed"...
Seemed quite definitive, i.e Spindle Test Failed
Diagnostics are better than I expected.
At least you were able to get a replacement. 1525 is still a nice machine.
