Title: PenDrive- Locked due to Virus
Post by: aarkrao on January 09, 2012, 09:22:37 AM
Respected Advisors/ Friends,

For the last few days, my pen drive is infested with Viruses - Recyclers, trojan etc. and the drive shows that it is write protected. When I run anti-virus, each type of virus is listed and files concerned as indicated as Access denied and Successfully quarantined.

I tried formatting it. But no succes (this could not be formatted...)

What should I do? Is it no longer usable?

(Anti-virus run by me is Quickheal-2012 internet security)

Regards

RK ::)

Hello and welcome to Computer Hope Forum. My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer.

1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.
5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line.

**************************************************************
Download Panda USB and AutoRun Vaccine (http://majorgeeks.com/Panda_USB_and_AutoRun_Vaccine_d6029.html) and save it to your desktop.

* Extract (unzip) the file to your desktop and a folder named USBVaccine will be created.
* Open that folder and double-click on USBVaccine.exe to start the program.
* Click Run
* Click the button to Vaccinate computer.
* Insert your USB flash drive.
* When the name of the drive appears in the dialog box, click the button to Vaccinate USB drive(s).
* Exit Panda USB and AutoRun Vaccine when done.

Note: Computer AutoRun Vaccination will prevent any AutoRun file from running, regardless of whether the removable device is infected or not. USB Vaccination disables the autorun file so it cannot be read, modified or replaced by malicious code. The Panda Resarch Blog (http://research.pandasecurity.com/archive/Panda-USB-and-AutoRun-Vaccine.aspx) advises that once USB drives have been vaccinated, they cannot be reversed except with a format. If you do this, be sure to back up your data files first or they will be lost during the formatting process.

Mr. Dave,

I read the instructions given by you. Firstly thank you for the same. Secondly, as the pen drive in question is not with me now (and for the next 2 days), I shall try the method suggested by you after a couple of days and then intimate you the results.

Till then, my thanks to you, again.

muzicbee9 you should not hijack someone else's thread. Why not just format your flash drive?
