Title: Where is my hotmail?
Post by: Bobh on January 17, 2012, 09:46:59 AM
Hi -
I am using Windows Vista Home Basic  32 bits.  I use Yahoo mail and am getting a lot of spams.  Thinking Hotmail might be better I tried to get it.  I found a place to download Hotmail, which I did.  I followed the procedure and it downloaded.  I do not know where it went.  I know I have it someplace because I can send a message to my address in Hotmail and it goes there.   I go to Yahoo mail and search "Hotmail" and there is my message.  My question is where is my Hotmail and how do I delete hotmail as I want to stay with Yahoo mail.  Any help will be appreciated but please keep it as simple as possible as I am not too smart.     Thanks    Bob

Spam has nothing to do with your client..  client = yahoo/hotmail

I found a place to download Hotmail, which I did.  I followed the procedure and it downloaded.  I do not know where it went.  I know I have it someplace because I can send a message to my address in Hotmail and it goes there.

This part I don't get... If your trying to download programmes then just save them to the desktop if your having trouble. Or look in you 'downloads' folder... search 'downloads'.

I go to Yahoo mail and search "Hotmail" and there is my message.  My question is where is my Hotmail and how do I delete hotmail as I want to stay with Yahoo mail.  Any help will be appreciated but please keep it as simple as possible as I am not too smart.     Thanks    Bob

I'm still wondering what you want... yahoo has a good anti-spam client as do most companies. OK I'm lost after thinking about it.

I must be the dumbest person you ever tried to help but bear with me. You have helped me on other problems and if I can make my self clear I am sure you can solve this one.   First when I downloaded Hotmail it did not ask me where to put it, so I don't know where it is.   Second, I am not aware I have a down load folder.  When I search "download" I get a lot of websites wanting me to download something.   What I really want is to find and delete Hotmail.     Thanks  Bob

As you figured out I am not sure what I am doing.  In searched for Hotmail and a lot of answer es came up.  Apparently I clicked on one headed Windows Live.  I put in a user name and password and an account overview came up.  There is nothing on that page that tells me how to use it or how to delete it.  Is this any help?    Thanks     Bob

Uninstall it from add/remove.

if you are talking about the online service than you don't "Uninstall" it since it doesn't get installed in the first place, it's just a website. If you want to stop using it, just stop using it.

I checked the add/remove and did not find it so I suppose I never had hot mail.  I will stop worrying about it and mark this solved.   Thanks for you help.  You people on this forum have helped me a lot.     Bob

Well, if you think you had Hotmail, then we have no reason to doubt that you had it.  But, clearly, you're still not understanding that Hotmail would never appear in the Add/Remove Programs (Programs and Features in Windows 7) because it's not a program.  As BC_Programmer, it's just a website.  Websites are not installed on your computer, they are just viewed by you using your web browser.

Thanks for your explanation.  I went to the page that had my Windows Live account.  At the bottom of the page was a place to click on that would delete Windows Live which also got rid of Hotmail.  I never saw it before but it solved my problem.
One more question if I may.  Is Windows Live just a website?  It seemed that when I gave an address and a password I had Windows Live and then I could use Hotmail.  None of this ever appeared on my desk top, I had to use search to find them.
Thanks for your time.      Bob

On my home page there is a "web search" which is what I used.

Jason2074 -
Thank you for the link.

I decided to stay with Yahoo mail because if I changed then I would have to notify all my contacts of the new address.
I don't want to go to that much trouble.  Thanks to all who helped in my education.  It may suprise you to know that I have learned from this forum is all I need for what I use my computer for.
