Title: Installed Office 2003 on Windows 7 computer and now it wont open
Post by: SuzanG on January 25, 2012, 09:30:01 PM
I installed Outlook 2003 on my new Windows 7 computer.

When I opened it, it asked for me to set up the accounts and I made the mistake of closing out of it before finishing.

Now I get two boxes that come up-one says Microsoft Office Outlook has stopped working-A problem caused the program to stop....windows will close the program. and also top box says Configuring Outlook Accounts.  but I have to close it.

I uninstalled, cleaned the cache, restarted computer and reinstalled.  Still no luck.  All other programs on the disc work.  Should I have installed it to the program folder that was not the 64bit?

What do I do?

SuzanG, Please provide some more information about your system.  Why did you not finish doing the setup as the program requested?

Have you read this?

If not, please do. You must use compatibly mode.

For 2 years I have been running Office 2003 Professional on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit (Access, Powerpoint, Publisher, Word, Excel, Outlook) and none of them need compatibility mode. I have also sucessfully installed Office 2003 Service Pack 3, and I have installed all these without any problems or compatibility issues...

All other programs on the disc work.

The install disk could be damaged, or if it is a "Sharpie" version, that may be where your problem is.

Not sure what you mean by this. You run the install CD, and it installs the programs in the right folder. 64 bit programs go under C:\Program Files, and 32 bit programs go under C:\Program Files (x86). Office 2003 is a 32 bit set of applications, so on a 64 bit system, therefore, MS Office 2003 goes in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11. If you install the proper way you don't get to choose to use (or not use) the program folder that is "not the 64 bit", whatever that is, so what did you do exactly?
