My cd rom will not close on my HP G60. Please help!
-
It's a laptop... I see.
It doesn't close? That means when you push the CD-ROM tray inside it won't lock shut? If so its time to get a replacement...
If you mean it does lock shut, but it keeps ejecting:
Does it eject when you get into Windows? Or does it start ejecting once you hit the power button and before Windows is loaded?
-
It locks. Stays in for 10 seconds (yes I just counted)
Green light comes on like its reading and then it ejects.

Does it eject when you get into Windows? Or does it start ejecting once you hit the power button and before Windows is loaded?
Like, for example, get into the BIOS (by repeatedly pressing F10 at start); does the CD drive still eject? If so, its a problem with the drive itself.

yes

Have you tried removing and re-seating the drive with all power removed ? ?
Was this unit dropped ? ?
-
I do not know how to remove the drive.
No, it was not dropped.
It was perfectly fine Thursday night. I closed the laptop to have dinner and then when I opened the screen, the disc drive popped out.
-
There should be a small release button right next to the drive itself....unplug the power.
-
Look at the optical drive bay at the bottom of your laptop and locate the screw connecting the drive to the HP G60. Remove this single screw.
Pull the DVD burner from the laptop by its front bezel.
-
??? Do you mean that hole where you force the eject with a paper clip?
-
Nope, I mean taking out the drive and then putting it back...
-
Should i remove the battery and unscrew the drive?
-
Yes
-
ok and then what? How do i reset it?
-
Are you followin me today ? ?
-
Yes. I remove the drive. then put the battery back without the drive, so i can go online to see what the next steps are? (i'm just double checking)
-
Turn on your PC and see if it still ejects...
-
Ok. Here goes.
-
Great! It stayed in. Genius!
:)
-
Great. DVD/CD does not auto launch. I will update software. Any other steps?
