Title: Removing trial McAfee from Acer Aspire One Netbook
Post by: KSchmid on April 13, 2012, 02:02:52 AM
Hi there,

I am having the same problem as in this post (Link: http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,101072.0.html), but I have an Acer Aspire One D257 Netbook, 32-bit, running on Windows 7 Starter.

I have both the trial version of McAfee (which came with the netbook) and Avast free Antivirus, which I downloaded. Since I have both running at the same time, should I remove Avast as well as McAfee and then reinstall avast after removing all the McAfee products?

Is there anything else which is different when removing McAfee on this particular computer, as opposed to the one in the abovementioned post?

Please help - I always manage to damage something when trying to change the settings on a computer, and I'm worried I'm running my computer without proper protection now...

Thank you!

There is a removal tool at the MacAffee site...

I don't see a reason you'ld have to uninstall/reinstall Avast.

Re-boot after.

The above comment can be safely disregarded, (in case anybody doesn't realise)

Agreed.

The respected companies all have the same protection module in their free and paid antivirus. You will usually get extra features with paid versions. That and live phone/chat support.
