Title: DacCom.dll Problem
Post by: Barefoot_Tom on May 17, 2012, 11:28:10 AM
I am running WIN200 on this computer, and have no desire to change. I have a scheduled task which runs every morning, and have preciously had no problem with it. Suddenly, it doesn't run. I checked the Task Scheduler, and the message said it was turned off. I attempted to turn it on, but was not successful Ultimately Component Services told me that a file named "DacCom.DLL" was improperly installed, and had to be re-installed so that the Task Scheduler would run.

The file didn't exist on my computer, nor does it seem to exist on my WIN2000 installation disk..

I Googled the problem, and it seems to be fairly common. One of the solutions offered allowed me to download the file DacCom.dll. I did so, but it didn't help. I got the same error message.

The program I want to run operates quite well when called up, but nothing will run from the Task Scheduler.

I have tried to re-register the file, but that doesn't work. I get a message that tells me the module couldn't be found.

Anyone have any ideas how to restore my Task Scheduler?

Tom Brady, I see you got told on another forum that there is a Windows file called dacom.dll. If your spelling of the file named in the message is accurate, then the answer in that thread which says you may have malware is worth following up. Malware authors often use names for files which are very similar to proper Windows files.

My spelling is correct. "DacCom.dll".
Perhaps I didn't explain the situation properly: when I attempt to initialize "Component Services" (which controls the Task Manager, among other things) I get 2 error messages. The first says "Unable to initialize application because (DacCom) is not installed properly. Please re-install this product.". The second error message is headed "Microsoft Management Console" and says " The selected snap-in did not initialize properly."

I downloaded a new version of "DacCom.dll", but it didn't end the problem.

Go to Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter...
Have your Windows CD handy...it'll ask for it...
Let it complete and re-boot.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, running the SFC program and re-booting didn't help.
I'm still looking for the answer
