Try downloading the software from safe mode with network support enabled.

Use the following applications as well:

Virus scanners
AVG Free (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1)
-- Anti virus scanner
Trend Micro Housecall (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/)
-- Online anti virus scanner.

Anti spy/malware
Microsoft Antispyware (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=321cd7a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en)
-- Anti spyware scanner. Windows XP Home and Professional only.
Spybot Search & Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html)
-- Anti spyware scanner
Adaware SE Personal (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/)
-- Anti spyware scanner

Firewalls
Use both a hardware and software firewall.
Be advised as dual software firewalls may cause problems

ZoneAlarm Free (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp)
-- Free firewall - more user friendly
Sygate Personal (http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm)
-- Free firewall - more configuration options

Removal tools
The following files are not substitutes for the ones described above.
They are either diagnostic tools or removal tools for malware of a certain kind

HijackThis (http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip)
-- Manual malware remover. Post the HijackThis log generated only if requested!
McAfee Stinger (http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/)

I downloaded the program and started the install, got as far as the username & password screen.

Does your computer meet the requirements below?

"Computer Hardware:
Computer Type - PC compatible (sorry, no Macs)
Monitor size - 15 inches or greater
Minimus OS version - Windows 98 or newer (Windows XP highly recommended)
Minimum RAM - 128 MB (256 MB highly recommended - On Windows XP, 256MB minimum
Minimum Processor Type: AMD Athlon, AMD Duron, Celeron or Pentium III or better
Minimum Processor Speed: 800 MHz or better
Minimum Graphic Resolution: 1024 x 768 16 bit
Sound card with speakers or headset
Internet Connection – DSL or Cable connection only (Sorry, No Modem access)
NOTE: Satellite connection and wireless networks are not supported for troubleshooting by the WAHA Helpdesk."

There does seem to be a lot of help available at the website.

yes also their tech support was trying to help me, they use gotoassist.com and are able to view my desktop and share the mouse so they did verify all my computer info, and settings. but weren't able to find the problem. honestly i'm kinda fed up and i'm not a computer whiz but after all the scanning i've done on this computer, i can't imagine anything that intricate still being on there. but i guess there is something cause i still can't run the program. and to tell you the truth, i've worked for the company b/f and have all the other programs on there b/c i never erased them, this wizard is something new that they implemented.  ???i don't know why they just can't bypass it and let me get in, since they can verify everything else is fine which is what the wizard does. if you can think of anything else let me know. and if and when the problem is solved i will let you guys know.  thank you sooooooooooo much for all your efforts an quick responce. you guys will definitley be my 1st stop next time i have a prob.  :)

I have been trying to download a diagnostic tool for the past four days from a website. Everytime I try to load it from the site, it starts but then, it just freezes.

Task Manager says it's not responding. I have to load this from a comany, because I'll be working for them and can't do any training until that tool is on there.

Basically it lets them verify that my computer meets all their requirements. I have been on the phone with their help desk for about ten hours with no solution.

They were able to access  my computer remotely and check my settings. To load this there are a few things I have to do, turn off pop-up blockers, turn off any spyware and virus programs, add them as a trusted site, and a few other minor changes on internet options.

I did all of this!

I have DSL, Windows XP, my ISP (not sure sprint gave me Earthlink, but I never loaded it. I just open an Internet Explorer window and get going). I have AOL loaded but I don't use that either and I have tried shutting them down before I try to load this software.

I know that I gave a lot of info, I just want all to have a picture of the site.

Thanks for any help. I called Geek Squad (yes I got desperate enough to pay $79, but they couldn't help because they knew the software, but had no info on the solving of my problem.)  but they were nice.

Nothing is wrong with the program, because I had someone else load it on their computer. The help desk said they think something is on my computer blocking me from loading it, but they couldn't find it.

Sounds highly suspect to me.

I would start by uninstalling AOL and ALL the other software which you don't need.

Just wanted to update you guys, b/c you've all been really helpful.  Ok, I was able to start working for the company. I never got the wizard to run on my computer, so I had my mom run it, so it checked her computer, and saw that it met all their requirememnts (yes yes I know that was sneaky  ;) but it worked). If they need me to run it again I'll have mom do it again or I may have a 2nd computer by then anyway.  Also I loaded all that Raptor suggested, but I'd like to know should I still keep all that stuff on my computer ( I have MS AntiSpyware, McAfee firewall, AVG, McAfee Virus Scan, Panda Xposer, Spybot, Trend Spyware and AOL Spyware protection)****To Mac..I'll take your advice.
Thanks

Running two anti-virus programs on the same machine is known to cause problems.

McAfee is a  good virus scan better then norton nowadays. By the way is the subscriptiion still valid? If it is expire better keep AVG then :D

As they are installed already and difficult to remove, keep the McAfee Anti-Virus and Firewall only.

When McAfee expires do a clean install and use AVG free and a firewall of your choice. (Using a router is better they tell me.)
