I apologize if i am on the wrong "topic" but where can i purchase a dell recovery disc (windows 7). I had a windows error recovery problem.. couldnt find any help on here... surprise surprise... (just rude admins)

Good morning yeahbaby5 and welcome to CH
OK 1st do you have a good back up of your data.
Use F8 key during boot to get into the Advanced Boot Options menu.
From the Advanced Boot Options chose the Repair Your Computer option.
Click Next and login to your administrator account on the computer. Your administrator account is the account created the first time the computer was turned on.
Click Dell Factory Image Recovery and DataSafe options and follow the onscreen instructions. Please keep one thing in mind the DataSafe should work for saving your data but nothing beats have good reliable back up's that you know are good.
If this is not what you are talking about please let us know using this method will restore the PC back to factory condition.
For most Dell PC's there is not really a restore Disc. There is a Windows 7 Disc and a driver / program disk. If your version of Windows 7 is say Home premium 64 bit you can use any windows 7 HP 64 bit disc and use your COA (25 digit lic number) this will be 5 groups of 5 letters and numbers to install windows 7. But your COA can only be used with what ever version of windows 7 the key is for.

Could you provide more details about the 'windows error recovery' page, such as any error number that might be displayed?

Well it says" windows failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause "

any options for ways to fix it from that message? is it a blue or a black screen?

its black and it says start windows normally and launch startup repair.. but both bring me back to the same screen

It means the hard drive is failing. You can try Dell's advice here:

Basically taking the drive out and putting it back in again to see if the same error comes up.
If you need to replace the hard drive, you can order a recovery disk from dell here:

If you are not sure if your PC is still under warranty you can check it here http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/warranty/warranty_information?c=us&cs=555&l=en&s=biz (http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/warranty/warranty_information?c=us&cs=555&l=en&s=biz)
Even If you are in or out of warranty Dell should be able to sell you the disk that your PC was produced with & the average cost is around 20$
But don't forget your PC had the bad hard drive error "i ran a harddrive diagnostics test and it said error 0146" so even if you get the windows 7 disc you still will need to purchase a new harddrive if the PC is out of warranty. The average cost of a harddrive is about 100+ dollars.
Hopefully the above link show that your PC is under warranty and the repairs will be done on Dell's dime ;D

I am working in Dell , Just let you know that If the computer is in warranty , you don't have to buy it and if it is out of warranty , you will get the disk under 14$ , you just need to call dell customer care !! for any enquiry please send me email))))))))))))

I would like to inform you that this system has the Dell Data Safe Local (DDSL) installed that will allow you to make backup / image copies to later reinstall on the system as needed. Since the system was ordered with the "no media" option, the Dell Data Safe Local would be the tool to use to create backup disk. To get to the DDSL to create your backup media, you should see either a pop up window when you first use the system. If this has been disabled, you should see a startup icon in the bottom right corner that will allow you to launch this tool as well.

Considering that will not sell you the disk's you can refer to post #1 there is instructions there to make the media disk's and if you can't make them look in the middle of that post & if you still have the COA / Sticker / license (Sticker may be on the bottom or under the laptop battery) that is 25 digits long and then if you can borrow a disk that is the same versions as yours then you can re-install the OS if you change the hard drive. Then all you would do is go to Dell's web site for the drivers for your model PC and windows version & you will be all set.

PS just remember if your PC came with Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium that is what you have to use to reinstall the OS the key is tied to OS version.

OK if your mom's disk's were made using Dell UT then no you can't use them. Long story short if she made them using Dell's UT they were made with her PC's hardware and software.
If she has a "Dell printed" windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit disk and a "Dell printed driver / application disk" then yes you can use only her W7 disk but her driver disk will be different than yours. So if this is the case borrow her disk and use your COA / key numbers to install the OS and then activate your OS with MS.
When you install W7 on your PC even if W7 has all the drivers for your PC still go to Dell's web site and still install there drivers, just a word of advise ;D

a little bit to confusing. lol i was wondering would it be a good idea just to wail tell windows 8 comes out and order for only $40 since i have windows 7 ten install that into my new hardrive(i dont have the hardrive)

Sorry on the confusion I was trying to write it down in a ay that would make since. If your Mom made the restore DVD's they would have been a standard blank DVD and marked with a marker on top saying Disk 1 of 3 etc. If the disks came from dell (Dell printed disks) like this (http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQKCcsQw_UCMRFxqfYKFHCe4FyzL4RLfvd_uS3SOFNCH2hfvpSQTQ) not necessarily the same color but they are printed on from the factory.

Your mom's version of windows 7 is the same of what your PC came with. So if she has the Dell printed disk you can use them just USE your key that is on the Microsoft COA sticker.

There are 3 different 15R's. I'm sure it's a 2.5" SATA HD, but how large do you want the new one?
