Title: Windows Updates
Post by: summerred on April 27, 2013, 05:56:12 AM
I just reinstalled Windows XP Pro. I'm unable to get Windows Update to work. If I click on it, a new blank white page is opened, and that's it. I'm not getting an error message, because I'm unable to even get that far. I've tried it with Firefox, and IE7, which I will soon update to IE8. Nothing in the device manager has a yellow exclamation point or question mark. I also tried Microsoft Fixit for Windows updates, but to no avail. Please help.

I followed the instructions, but I couldn't find the %windir%\inf file. Could it be hidden. Should I look for it as the Administrator in safe mode? I'd use 'search', but that comes up as a blank white page as well. Also, the automatic updates are on. I haven't been able to download one thing from Windows Update, much less SP3. I'm not even sure I have IE7 downloaded, much less IE8. Under IE version it's blank.

Are you sure this isn't a homemade copy of XP ? ?
Reason i ask is out of the gate you are already missing key Windows components after a clean install...
Also in regards to the above you have to follow the steps to show hidden files for that .ini file to be listed...
It also sounds like you may not even have an internet connection...do any pages load in any of the browsers ? ?
Run the install on that driver CD if your sure it's the correct one for the PC.

I've got the disk and the serial number sticker, so there's no problems there.
The connection is cool, I just can't get Windows Update to work. I was
able to download SP3 and then IE8. Once I rebooted, Windows update
is still coming up with a blank white screen.
