Post by: EricA. on May 21, 2013, 04:59:17 PM
Hey i have my wireless network that everyone in the house uses (xbox, cellphone, another laptop, and a wireless desktop) but for some reason my compaq presario cq60 cannot connect. it gives my a "Wireless authentication failed because of a time out" Error. Ive went to the device manager and looked under network adapters but none have !'s. Ive also tried my date and time and yes the password is correct. Thank you for the help  ;D

I have had before where the router or wireless access point just needs a reset. Have you reset the wifi device that serves up the connection?

In addition to this are you sure the wifi is turned on on the computer, some computers have a wifi switch or its a hot key fn+ another key to enable/disable wifi.

What encryption method is being used on the router?  If it's WPA2, try dropping it to WPA, or WPA/WPA2 mixed mode.  Some wireless cards have problems connecting to networks protected by certain types of encryption.  It's also worth trying both TKIP and AES encryption for both WPA2 and WPA, see if that makes a difference.

On your desktop in the device manager what does it say for your wireless card? Mine says Broadcom 802.11g wireless adapter.
And what is your router model?
