Title: FTP working over wan but not lan
Post by: 21grams on February 18, 2014, 01:38:30 PM
Hey there guys and gals. I'm trying to set up an ftp server using the filezilla server software. While I've been able to access the server through the internet so far I have not been able to do so over lan. I've tried accessing it with its firewall software turned off but I can't seem to connect to it over lan.

Annnnnnnnnnnd I'm an idiot. I'm not too familiar with dd-wrt. A few weeks ago I made a virtual wireless interface and apparently it is not connected with lan. I suppose you should delete this, or leave it on the off chance someone else does something that dumb.

Well I thought it might be a NAT Loopback issue.  Many older routers did not have this feature.  Since you don't have any internal DNS resolution the DNS is being provided by your DNS or Domain name provider.  So it has to go out and come back in to your network.  Also known as loopback.  What I did to get around this was edit my hosts file on each computer to associate the LAN IP address with the domain name.

Come work for me.  That is the only way to get files on and off our mainframe.
