Title: BSOD sometimes when shutting system down or while game is minimized
Post by: RoyZ on April 01, 2014, 01:59:15 PM
Hello, hope you guys can give me some directions.

I have been having some BSOD when I shut down my computer. Not everytime, but sometimes, mostly when the computer stayed on for more than 24hrs.

Also happened a couple times while some game was minimized and I was browsing or doing other stuff.

Till now it NEVER happened while playing. Hope it keeps that way lol.

Using BluescreenView to analise the minidumps, here it what it shows, I'm gonna sum it up, if you need all the parameters I will paste them here too.

4 minidumps

The last one was on: 30/03/2014 04:44:39
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA - 0x00000050 - Cause by Driver: Win32k.sys - Caused by Adress:

Running Windows 7 64bit

SFC /SCANNOW shows no error
check disk shows no error

1) What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?

2) EXACTLY how did you run chkdsk? Please run it as follows:  right-click on a command prompt icon and open as administrator. In the command prompt window type: chkdsk /r  (then press ENTER). You'll be told the disk is in use and asked if you want to run checkdisk on the next boot. Say yes, exit the command prompt window, and reboot.

3) Please download & install the latest driver for your display adapter (if you're using a desktop, get it from the website of the card's manufacturer - if you're using a laptop, get it from the website of the laptop manufacturer)

4) Install the latest direct-x

5) To check the ram, download memtest (http://memtest.org/). Burn it to a cd using a dedicated .iso burning utility (http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm), make sure the cd drive is at the top of the boot order in bios, then boot to the newly created cd and run the utility.

Let's see where we are after all of the above is done.

1) I actually don't know. It was running fine, than one day I got the blue screen, and after that day it started happening often. I think the last thing that changed was updating to the latest GPU driver, but it worked with no BSOD for a long time. If it was the driver shouldn' the error had occurred sometime right after the new driver or is it normal to take months?

2) I ran check disk by schedueling it for next time PC would start, from the Tools tab in the disk properties.

3) been using the latest for a long time.

4) I have the latest direct x.

5) I got no error on my RAM sticks

If this is related to some video card conflicts, should I use some software that can fix registry and stuff like CCleaner? I did unninstalled the old driver just like I'm supposed to, even tho most people just run it over the last one. I never have problems with drivers before, but if that can be the case, should a registry clean program help it or I shouldn't use programs like CCleaner? I never used any type of programs and never had problems.

Ccleaner doesn't do anything and DO NOT ever use a "registry cleaner". They cause problems, they do not fix anything.

Download BlueScreenView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply

If there are more than 10 instances, please just post the 10 most recent.

The errors seem to be a week apart. This means they are intermittent and that makes them very difficult to diagnose. The most common cause of your particular error is related to drivers. I know you said you have the most current driver(s), but please check again. Is it a desktop or a laptop? As I mentioned above, if it's a laptop you MUST get the drivers from the website of the computer manufacturer. If it's a desktop, get the drivers from the websites of the specific hardware manufacturers for each device.

Also, please look in device manager - are there any yellow or red symbols?

Last, Download Autoruns for Windows: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx)

No installation required. Simply unzip the Autoruns.zip file, and double click on the autoruns.exe file to run the program.

Go File>Save, and save it as AutoRuns.txt to a known location

You must select Text from drop-down menu as a file type

Attach the file to your next reply.

Ok thanks, I'll do that when I get home.

It is a desktop, and yes I am sure I got all the latest drivers available for my motherboard(lan, sound, chipset, etc..) and the latest official driver for my GPU. There is a new beta driver but I don't like to go BETA, I wait for the official release.

If the beta driver is on the website of the oem provider, go ahead and give it a shot. You can always roll back. One other thing - please check for a bios update.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte B75M D3H rev 1.0, my BIOS is the F4. On the website the latest one is the F15. I have been thinking about updating it but I'm kinda reluctant to do so, cause I hear so many people saying it is too risk to update mobo BIOS. Should I just go for it?

F4 to F15 is huge. I've updated dozens of bios's and never had the slightest issue. My suggestion is that you update. Just take your time and follow the instructions.

The safest way is using a USB drive and flashing it from the BIOS Q-Flash option right?

They have a software @BIOS and some people use that to update on windows with no problem but I'm not so sure.

Whichever way you're most comfortable with is fine. As I said, just follow the instructions.
