I am running Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit). I had IE 9 installed as I bought the notebook.
I tried to update IE 9 to IE 10 and failed. Later tried to update to IE 11 and also failed.
Now, I decided to try IE 11 again and try to find the cause of the problem.
Updating IE 11 finishes successfully. The shutdown and restart works fine without error.
Launching IE results in an IE window with Internet Explorer in the title bar of the blank window. After about 20 seconds, it shuts down. Launching it again causes the same result.
Now I don't have usable IE.
Where should I look for the cause of this problem?
Thanks

You could try this:
Please download and run MS Fix-it from here. (http://support.microsoft.com/mats/AudioPlayback/en-us?entrypoint=lightbox) Click on the IE button

Thanks for the reply SuperDave, but the link you supplied is for repairing sound problems not IE problems.
Tried Microsoft recommendation to turn Windows Feature for IE off and then on, at:

Did nothing, still not working.

I had a similar problem and was told I could not run IE11 on W7 unless SP1 was installed. It works ok now after SP1 was downloaded and installed from Windows Updates.

I have W7 with SP1 installed without IE 11 working.

As an aside...
I have Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit.
I have IE10 installed and working well. I have my Windows updates set for me to manually initiate all updates.
Every time Windows tells me there are new updates available, it tries to get me to also check the Update To IE11 box.
I did update to IE11 once, several months ago, and many programs I use became rife with glitches, so I went back to IE10.
I haven't got the patience to see if IE11 has improved since then.

schuarta, you are lucky that you have IE 10 working on your machine. I tried IE 10 and behaves the same as IE 11 on my machine - launches with blank white window and shuts down in about 20 seconds.
I would be happy with IE 10 because, I believe, that it has the option to start with tabs from last session. IE 9 doesn't have this option, otherwise, I would be happy with IE9.
I have been using Firefox because of this problem. However, Firefox has it's own problems - mainly, for me, it's that video from from some sites don't work.
