Title: Acer aspire 5733Z-4633 shuts off unexpectedly
Post by: shashgo on September 17, 2014, 08:33:40 PM
Its running Windows 7.  It works normally whenever I am surfing the web or doing anything other than watching streaming videos.  I can watch videos on youtube properly,  but for some reason, the computer randomly shuts down when I try to watch something on hulu.com or even cnn.com.  So it seems to happen only with streaming video.  And I have no idea why, I thought it might be the graphics card overheating, but then I should have the shut down problem with youtube too.

So what could be the issue

How long have you had this laptop?
Is it under warranty?
It might be the video card. But you can not be sure It can be also a weakness in the chip set, a poor driver, a weakness in the BIOS firmware. Just to mention a few thins. You should not have to fix it unless it is out of warranty.
The fact that it does some videos alright and bops on YouTube does not prove that it is YouTube at fault. Things happen.

The CH archives have loots of cases where a PC or Laptop will lock ;up randomly. The is no simple answer.
Have you ran some basic diagnostics? Memory check? Drive check?
What about virus scans?

laptop is about 2 years old.  And it shuts down randomly when playing streaming videos from hulu.  It plays fine with youtube.

You think a virus could cause the shutdowns?  And no I dont know what diagnostics to run.  Any ideas?

OK, here is some general information.
The two most important tests are Memory and Hard Drive.
Start with memory.

Memtest and Memtest86

Testing a computer hard drive for failures

Personally I like the Seagate SeaTools

Others here can help you with video card issues.
