Title: How do I protect my computer using public wi-fi?
Post by: 02bin3 on October 06, 2014, 06:28:45 AM
I have a Lenovo laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium and will have to use public wi-fi wherever I can find it for a few months.  However, I am really not too comfortable with this and would like to know what I have to do, or what programs I need to keep my computer from "catching" a virus out there in the big world.  I am running Norton's Antivirus and using Windows Firewall, Malwarebytes, CCleaner & SpywareBlaster.  Thank you....

I'm moving this out of the malware section and into the networking section. When you set up the wireless connection you'll be asked if it's a public or private network. Just make sure you choose public. Other than that, take the same precautions you would if you were using your home network.
