Post by: markkaiser on November 06, 2005, 02:57:14 PM
Hi
I have Windows XP laptop and it's acting retarded
I don't know what happened to it but all of a sudden it doesn't show the welcome screen after i log off
i'm an admin on the computer and somebody else uses my computer but they have a limited account
now they cant access the computer because after i log off i get something like this
(http://www3.georgetown.edu/uis/images/software/documentation/win2000nonovell/unlocknonw.jpg)

i went to user accounts and i made sure that the welcome screen and the fast user switching options are both checked
i dont know what happened
can anybody help me my welcome screen back?

thanks a lot
mark

Well you said you had Windows XP and this is a Win2000 screen. Is that exactly what you get? If so, how do you suppose that happened? Has this machine ever had Win2000? Sometimes this can happen with a dirty install/upgrade with XP.

Perhaps dl65 or FED can come up with a quick cure. The other party can not log on with this screen with his info?

Does this happen when you are not connected to the internet?
Physically pull the plug then try it.

Mark,

What's probably happening is that your screensaver may be password protected.

Try this...

1) Open your Control panel.

2) Double-click your Display icon.

3) Click the "Screensaver" tab.

4) Uncheck "On resume, password protect".

5) Click "Apply" and/or "OK".

This should take care of the problem.

I tried that..in the screensaver tab i can only uncheck "on resume, display welcome screen"..no password protected box  ???

Mark...

Ok...now I know where the problem is:

1)  Open your Control Panel.

2)  Open Power Options.

3)  Click the Advanced Tab.

4)  Uncheck Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby.

5)  Click Apply and or Ok.

Don't forget to go back into your Display Properties and check the box to show Welcome screen.

Hope this works.

Then the only thing I can recommend is FED's last post.

Or if all else fails...try to explain to us exactly when this started happening and what you or your friend were doing on the computer prior to getting the locked computer password screen.

You might even want to try a system restore to a restore date when this wasn't happening.

It's got me scratching my head...

FED's last post is the right description for my problem
I did everything it said..but no luck :S

I havn't downloaded anything on my computer
It was working properly and when i logged off i couldnt see the welcome screen

How do i know the restore date?

Can you post a screenshot?

Other than the Windows 2000 one you submitted initially?  Needs to be the one from your PC.
