I need help figuring out how to change my IDE to SATA in XP home. I am going crazy.
I CANNOT -
change drivers via hardware manager
double-click a .reg file (It says script is incorrect. It needs to be binary).
Don't have a clue what a 'Remote hive' is.
I have slip-streamed before, but XP is already installed
My set-up is dual boot XP 32 / Win 7 64 bit. I am tired of changing the BIOS. Gigabyte AX88
The .sys file is in the \system32\drivers folder.
I have all files needed for a floppy. Alot good that does me.

Many want to help you, but there is a problem.
It is not clear what you want to do.
For a desktop PC running Windows XP, the BIOS should be set to allow XP to read the drive as if it were an older drive type.

I want the registry of XP to recognize the IDE as an SATA which is possible. It was possible to 'load'
the SATA drivers during set-up, but I didn't know that at the time. Hence, my reference to 'floppy files'.
I've done like 50 searches and they take me in 100 different directions or just give help to Intel motherboards.
Mine is an AMD chipset, which provided SATA drivers for XP x86. That doesn't help because they were to be
used when installing XP. According to websearches, it can be done AFTER the install. They just aren't clear
or the solution doesn't help me or sends me off to search what they are even talking about.
P.S. My OSes are Acronis installed from years ago.

Did your motherboard come with the drivers?
If you have the drivers on a floppy disc, there is a way to install without using the floppy.

SATA hard drives have become more and more appreciated tending to substitute the IDE drives due to the increasing speed they offer. Motherboard manufacturers started to implement the new standard years ago, when the technology was young and expensive. Now, as the SATA HDD prices have lowered to a level where anybody can afford to choose a SATA enabled HDD instead of an IDE one, a great migration has been observed among the common computer users.
They choose to install Windows and applications on SATA drives because they provide more speed which determines the system to run smoother. Thus, for those owning older main boards with SATA support an extra step is required while attempting to install Windows XP. Windows XP does not provide drivers for all the SATA controllers, therefore, during the installation procedure, the user must insert a floppy with the drivers that came in the package along with the motherboard.
