Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can help me out I'm looking to upgrade the processor in my HP Pavillion 7966.
I currently have a 1.7Ghz processor and I want to upgrade to a 2.6GHz processor with hyper threading.
My question is will my computer support the new processor and take advantage of the hyper threading?
Links for my computer and the processor I want to upgrade to:

No clue if that's the motherboard I can't figure it out. Is there any software out there that I could download to identify the motherboard?

HP OEM board are manufactured by different companies and are made to HP's proprietary specs. You can ID the board and chipset but you should be very cautious about you do. WCPUID (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,22473,tk,hsx,00.asp).

You'll have fewer headaches if you purchase a new 'barebones' system (generic box with PSU, mainboard, video and sound cards) and whatever parts you need to fill it out, build your own, and add a KVM switch to allow you to use either machine with a single monitor and KB. The HP/Compaq crackerboxes are not very upgradeable.
