Title: Repair Windows 7 installation?
Post by: lectrocrew on January 17, 2016, 04:07:54 PM
This is my girlfriends Dell inspiron laptop which had so much malware / malicious programs etc. installed that it would barely function.
I've had to uninstall / delete a lot of unwanted programs and also Malwarebytes/ MSE / Superantispyware quarantined a lot of files too. Somewhere during the process I may have uninstalled needed system files. #1 I'm getting the error message attached.

Isn't there an option to boot to a partition on the hard drive that will repair this Windows 7 OS? Which key do I press during boot to access this?

I tried F8 button during boot which gave me a 'Start-up Repair' option but that didn't help.

The hidden partition would wipe everything and tale it back to Day 1 status...you sure this is what you want ? ?

If not then locate a Win7 DVD and run a Repair Install which will save all apps and data.

Did you delete your restore points? If not run system restore.
then, run RKILL, and then Combofix. You can get them here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/windows/)
I find Panda Free Antivirus
2016 is a great tool for this type of rescue.

run these and then check back in and tell us how it went.

ComboFix is a powerful tool and should not be used unless instructed to do so by an expert in malware removal. It could turn your computer into a expensive door stopper.

Couldn't agree more...

I wouldn't have suggested it if I was not prepared to support it. ;)

I did a repair install but I am still getting the same error message. I do not have any 'system restore' options. What now?

I'd rather fix this if it's relatively simple but I have all the files backed up and I have the license codes for my paid version software so I can do an install from the partition if needed. I may need directions for doing that?

At this point you may need the help of a local friend who has does this befosre.
You can Google this: repair or restore Windows 7
And get this:
https://www.google.com/search?q=repair+or+restsores+Winedows+7&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8#q=repair+or+restore+Windows+7

Which will give a list of articles that have been published.

If I were your local friend,  I would try to 'clone' your hard drive to a spare hard drive and then try different things on the new  copy. If best efforts fail, you still have the original disk drive to work with.

The spare hard drive should be the same type and the same size. Or a little bigger. You will find the cost of a spare drive should be less that the cost of paying somebody to fix the computer.
That Is the best I can offer.  :)

No...it cannot be facilitated from the Recovery partition...as you read in the link provided you need a MS Win7 DVD that matches the ver. you currently have installed...

Start askin around for 1...
