Title: typing errors, same letter twice
Post by: Kryptonite on June 15, 2016, 08:32:53 AM
I had a windows 8 laptop that I actually liked except it typed certain letters twice. So, for instance, I would type the word instance and it would always come up " instancee"  Under warranty tech had me reload the file that controlled typing but the problem still existed. I purchased an external Bluetooth keyboard thinking the key itself might be sticking. Problem persisted. Gateway had me update to win 10. Problem still existed.
I purchase a new Toshiba laptop with win 10 installed. Same problem exist with the new computer. Best Buy actually took it back and gave me a new one within 3 days of first purchase. Now Toshiba wants me to box it up and send it in for repair.
If you're wondering; it's not just the letter "e" it happens with other letters as well. But a few letters it happens more than others.
This part will make you scratch you head: I tried typing in tablet mode and it still has the problem. Then I tried dictation and it still doubles the "e" more than any other letter.
I've been living with it but I'm thinking of going Mac

have you tried to change the keyboard to another language to test if the problem goes away?

This is a common problem for many Windows users.
Keys on my computer keyboard are repeating (http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001337.htm)
The above article is from the CH archives.

However, after reading your post over carefully, it would seem that thou may need a keyboard the has a more firm key stroke. These are often called  ' mechanical keyboards'. Which means that it uses a type of key button  that has a very definite click when you depress it. Here is a reference:
Why You Want a Mechanical Keyboard (http://www.tomsguide.com/us/why-you-want-mechanical-keyboard,news-19706.html)

This keyboard has little plungers held up by springs. It makes a firm click when you press.

But it doesn't explain that it happened on the laptop keyboard...and an external.

And now a 2nd laptop...

From their own post, Many keys also double up when they use dictation software and when they use the on-screen keyboard. This suggests a software problem, as both work via Virtual key presses which will be affected by software. Most laptops include hotkey utilities which could be sending repeat Virtual Key events, for example. Best way to check is to remove any and all key-related utilities.
