Title: IE - height of navigation and status bars
Post by: craigt on August 23, 2016, 09:46:38 AM
I have 2 laptops side by side running Windows 10.  I have www.google.com in IE 11 (same versions) up on both machines.   Both machines have a SR of 16:9 and the Windows text size is 9 (default).  I'm only showing the address and menu bars at the top and the status bar at the bottom of IE on both machines.   In the IE viewing area, where URLs are shown and wwww.google.com is being shown, all text and images are exactly the same size on both machines.   But the text, icons, and bar height of the IE address bar, the menu bar, and the status bar are different in size on the 2 machines?    Can anyone explain this and how this can be adjusted?  Thanks. craigt

Right clik the bars...select use small icons...

I think that 'using small icons' only applies to the task bar.   The task bar text, icons, and line height are the same on both machines.

Did you try using the mouse to resize these bars by highlighting the lower edge ? ?

When you have it placed proper at bottom edge just hold down mouse button and drag upwards...it'll be a up/down arrow...

It does not seem to work for me.   I'm familiar with that 2 ended arrow.  It does not come up when I drag the mouse over the bottom edge of the address bar, menu bar, or status bar.   Does it do it for you?

The system where those elements appear larger likely has the display set to a higher DPI. It should be a slider in the Display control panel.

The DPI slider in the display area of the control panel is at 100% in both systems.   Let me summarize what I'm seeing again from the bottom up.

task bar - text, icons, and line height same on both machines

status bar - text and line height different on the 2 machines

URL viewing area - text and icons same on both machines

menu bar - text and line height different on the 2 machines

address bar - text, icons, and line height different on the 2 machines

status bar using what program? You need to look at the settings of that program and compare the settings on both computers.

menu bar using what program?

address bar using what program?

If the laptops aren't identical the display won't be identical...just sayin...

I apologize, you did mention IE 11 in your first post.
I don't run Windows 10 so I can't tweak and see what might be different. (I do have two Acer netbooks that I was planning to play around with and compare settings).
Have both laptops side by side and IE open in both. Go through each item comparing the two. Some setting or settings don't match.

So far I haven't found anything that lets you just increase the menu bar and status bar. If you change those through view, the inside web page gets bigger or smaller but there is no change in the menu and status bar.
