Title: Recovery Disc or Repair Installation for 10
Post by: DaveLembke on September 16, 2016, 08:51:33 AM
Friend of mine came to me this morning asking if I had a Windows 10 Repair Disc that he could use as for his system is now stuck in a Windows 10 boot loop. Curious if all Windows 10 Repair Discs are the same or if they are created specifically (dynamically) for that build/PC to where they wont work well in other Windows 10 systems needing repairing?

I asked which version of Windows he upgraded from and he said he upgraded from Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. The good thing there is that thats the same version I upgraded from on my one system that has Windows 10 on it.

Was wondering if I can create a Repair Disc for Windows 10 and it would help fix his issue or if he is out of luck and should have created one for his build that is corrupted?

Additionally, I cant seem to locate it, but I thought I read here at some point about Microsoft making ISO's available for download for Windows 10 so that if he needed to he could also try a repair installation using the Windows 10 Installation Disc, but havent found the link. If this is available if anyone has the link to that, that would also be helpful.

I asked him why he didnt create the recovery media or repair disc for his system and the answer I got was that well all problems he had in the past were able to be corrected by using repair tools. Asked him if he thinks he could have gotten nailed by a virus and he said no he just plays games through steam client and so no unsafe download and installations.

Windows 8 or 10 allows you to create a recovery drive (USB) or system repair disc (CD or DVD) that can be used to troubleshoot and restore your computer. Each type of recovery media gives you access to Windows’ advanced startup options.

You can also copy your computer’s recovery partition to the drive, creating a backup copy. After you create the backup copy, Windows will allow you to remove the recovery partition from your computer, freeing up gigabytes of space.3
A recovery drive will normally not be necessary. If your computer fails to boot several times, Windows 8 or 10 will automatically bring up the advanced startup options, which allows you to troubleshoot and fix it.

If Windows can’t even bring up these tools, you’ll need the recovery drive, system repair disc, or a Windows 8 or 10 installation disc. Insert the recovery media into your computer and restart. Your computer should boot from the recovery media automatically. (If it doesn’t, you may need to change its boot order.)
