Title: (A:) drive makes noise when internet explorer open
Post by: Bill Feiler on July 31, 2004, 05:10:43 AM
When I am online and internet explorer opens up my A: drive searches for a disk.  How do I get it to stop.  Thanks Bill

Please Read This First - Viruses & Spyware (http://www.computerhope.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=14;action=display;num=1089181015)

I suggest you see if there are any Adware or virus components installed on your system.

Also, deleting redundant files with a program such as Advanced System Optimizer (http://www.systweak.com/asov2/) may work. Did you install any Internet Explorer 3rd party add-ons that you have removed in a way you should not have?

Thanks Raptor, but no to all of your suggested possibilities.  Bill

Does an error occur when Internet Explorer is scanning for a disk?

Does it happen on every website you open?

I suggest you try the different settings on Ad-aware 6.0 and Spybot S&D. Perhaps allow them them to load at Windows start up.

Thanks Raptor and Merlin for your postings,  I have had to focus on other things for a while.  I don't think it is any virus, nothing else is effected and nothing with my computer works wierdly.  Merlin, I tried the method you described in your last posting and clicked off the 'untick search for floppy drives' but that didn't work also.  The a floppy drive is still searching when explorer opens a window of any sort.  Let me know if you can have me try anything else.  Thanks, Bill

Thanks for the link, I never had this kind of noise up untill a few months ago now when this thing started.  It is not a noise that I have ever heard another computer do when openinng explorer.  The description is right in that it is searching for a floppy.  I'm close to giving up and living with it, but the curiousity is keeping me coming back.  Thanks for your help, Bill
