When I go to play a game a pop-up says no sound card available but there is and it always worked, what do you thinks up, I ran Belarc and it did not show a card.

It may be missing it's driver if Belarc don't show it...do you know which card it is and how old ? ?

Don't know the card name it was got by a friend who built the pc and it's about 3 years old.
I have never cleaned the tower would that have anything to do with it.

Is it just the one game that has the issue and sound otherwise works?
I had this happen with some 20 year old games that were intended for DOS/Windows3.11/95 where it requires direct access to a sound card like an old sound blaster 16 at IRQ 5 or IRQ 7 and its unable to work hand in hand with modern Windows OS to use the sound that is working completely fine otherwise with other programs and newer games.

If you have a sound card installed you are going to have to open the case and inspect the sound card. If its unknown when looking at it as to what card it is if it has a FCC ID tag on it you can cross reference that on google and find the card make/model and get the correct driver.
If its onboard sound integrated with motherboard then you will need to figure out Make/Model/ and sometimes REV of the motherboard to chase down a driver.
The ( ! ) multimedia audio controller - "unknown" is probably your sound card.

Your sound card is listed in Device Manager as "High Definition Audio Device" under Sound, video and game controllers and is shown to be working correctly.
Do you have the speaker icon in your system tray on the far right side of the Task Bar? If so, right click on it and select Playback devices. What does it show there as the default audio device?

Also, I was thinking the High Definition Audio Device that is listed could be HDMI audio if he has a video card with HDMI. Thats why I was thinking the ( ! ) for multimedia audio controller is to be targeted to correct for the problem, however if the default audio device is incorrect then there would be no sound. :)

It could also be for an audio app he installed and hasn't setup proper - like...

From what I understand, it is specific to AMD's Implementation; One of my systems is AMD-based and disabling the "High Definition Audio Device" doesn't affect audio output from the on-board sound, nor from the Xonar DG Card installed in it. It does prevent Audio from going through HDMI. Nvidia's version is "NVidia High Definition Audio" And Intel uses "Intel(r) Display Audio" which are far more clear in their naming.
The uninstalled "Unknown Device" would seem to be a sound card. Though Drivers don't tend to uninstall themselves, either.

Looks like I was incorrect about the audio device and that the multimedia audio controller is your sound card. Sorry for that. The fact that you don't show any Playback devices on the Playback tab confirms that.
As bc_programmer pointed out, drivers don't usually uninstall themselves so I would try re-seating the sound card (power off, remove and re-insert sound card from it's slot). It's possible that the card's terminals are corroded or that the card "backed" out of it's slot to to thermal expansion/contraction. It may also be possible that your sound card failed and needs to be replaced.

Have you determined what sound card you have to know what driver to apply to it? I didnt see any of this info and it would help to know what sound card you have or if integrated sound, what motherboard you have. This will require taking cover off computer and inspecting unless you already know this and havent shared yet this info.

Dave, don't have a clue about the name of anything and the cover was put on about 4 years ago and never opened but I will have a look as you said when I get the cover of.

As was pointed out after I posted, you should determine whether you have a separate sound card (my assumption) or whether the sound card is built-in to the motherboard.
