Post by: John1397 on March 26, 2017, 10:40:07 AM
Is the old Excel version 4.0 gonna work on the new windows 10 operating system?

Hi John1397,

Excel 4.0 is a 16-bit application. Is the windows 10 going to be the 32 or 64-bit version?
I looked at the net, that with 64-bit version there isn't a direct way to run 16 bit applications, because the 16 bit subsystem was removed in the 64 bit versions, but the 32 bit versions still have it.
BTW, I'm just curious, why do you need to run Excel 4.0 in a modern computer?

For the Easter egg, maybe?

Won't work on x64 (as mentioned),but I was able to install it on Windows 10 32-bit just now.

Without a floppy disk drive I imagine it might be a bit more annoying, though it seems to install fine when you copy the contents to the hard disk and install from there.

:-) I would like to try that. I have Excel 4.0 on a Win 3.1 system, but how does one bring it up?
I googled it, but didn't find the answer.
