how do i get them back?
tried to restore with win98se disk, don't know which file comes from or goes to
-
If you put your install disk in the drive and reboot do you get the option to Repair Windows? If so, try it. More than likely you're looking at a reinstall of Windows. If you have to reinstall, you may lose some of your data. Good luck.
-
Try using SFC to recover the original files from the CD.
-
there was no option to repair windows. i have removed the win 98 and reloaded about five times, but i still get the following
can not find system.ini
nwnp32.dll
and about 4 files .vxb
-
Hmsam,
Can you tell us whether those dll's are OS specific or an application one.
When do you get the error?
While booting or when you start an application?
-
when i start up my computer. it comes up in the DOS mode(?). i hit enter 4 times then win 98 begins.
reads-system.ini can not be found, then it lists 4 .vxd files.

Sometimes a clean install is a quick & efficient way to go.
-
i take it that means erasing the whole c drive and re-installing from the very start.
-
I don't mean you have to do that, it's an option though depending on how much other stuff you have on there.

Fed, I am shocked, but pleased! ;D

I'd try reinstalling Windows over the previous install and pray it works with no other data loss. Otherwise I think you'll have to format and lose all.

Actually there is a non-destructive method for re-installing Win98 which retains all your files and settings...if this is what you want to do post back and i'll give instructions.
