Title: Suggestion for a weather website without clickbait that loads fast?
Post by: DaveLembke on June 23, 2017, 07:53:02 AM
Was wondering if anyone knew of any good weather websites for looking at radar and other info quickly as for I have had it with www.weather.com which has become a bloated mess of lag and click bait. Looking online to see if the problem was at my end, the problem seems to be clearly an issue with the website.

I have 20mbps / 5mbps bandwidth and between a AMD Athlon II x4 620 2.6Ghz and a AMD FX-8350 4.0Ghz systems the lag is about the same. On a older Core Duo 1.6Ghz Laptop with 2GB RAM, the site is even slower to load so they have script bloat going on too.

Ran www.speedtest.net and thats where I verified my internet connection speed. Years ago it never use to be this bad but its gotten worse ever since they added click bait to the site.

I watched my CPU monitor on all 3 systems and I didnt see any unusual CPU use such as a single core of many getting pegged to 100% etc, so I dont believe its at my end. Online complaints for the same thing the only suggestions I see is instead of going to www.weather.com to install an app for weather. I dont want to install any apps. They already have the annoying weather bug which I installed years ago and uninstalled it because it was acting like spyware.

Here is a site with many like myself not happy with the weather website. https://www.sitejabber.com/reviews/www.weather.com

Minimal ads...once they are unchecked they are gone...

You can set multi weather locations to check...which is alo a nice travel feature...

Tell 'em patio sent ya...

WU is a perfect replacement. Thanks Man!

Much faster load times, less clutter, better features.  :)

Not a website, but for quite some time I used an add-in for Firefox, ForecastFox, which effectively showed weather information in the status bar/toolbar. It uses Accuweather.com via an API I believe.

There are also ways to do it with [ulr=https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/heyscriptingguy/2010/11/07/use-powershell-to-retrieve-a-weather-forecast/]Powershell[/url].

of course as I mentioned these aren't websites, but I think they also sidestep the issue with ads and such, as well as loading fast, since they use the APIs which only really give weather information, rather than stylesheets and formatting and images and such as with the standard websites.

I like to use the national weather service's website.
