Hello. Originally I wanted to perform a chkdsk from boot as it appears my pc is playing up. Nearly everything won't open properly and/or seem slow. For example, I went to open Windows 10, "Users", folder and an, "Access is Denied", message came up. Searches said to go to the, "Security", tab, but it's not there. So it said to use, "File Explorer Options", to, "show files, folders and drives", but that didn't work either. Also tried right clicking, "Command Prompt", but a long message basically saying, "This file does not have a program associated with for performing this action,". And putting, "gpedit.msc" in, "Run", failed too. Please help!

Go with your 1st instinct...run chkdsk /r from a command prompt...do NOT interrupt it.

if you can't get to a command prompt, running a chkdsk will be difficult.
you may have to start the PC in Safe Mode.
for the same reason you can't get into a command prompt, will probably also stop you getting into msconfig to setup Win10 to start the next boot into Safe Mode.
another method is to start the PC normally, but as it starts Win10, hold in the power button to force a shutdown, repeat that process a couple more times and Windows will eventually bring up a "Please wait, repairing..." message where you can get into Safe Mode.
then try your chkdsk command.
perhaps a sfc /scannow would also be advisable.

Thank you everyone. I should had said that it won't let me open up the Command Prompt as Administrator. Otherwise the CMD will open normally but I still can't perform the chkdsk, as it'll say I haven't sufficient privileges.
I'll try and do what's said today.

Hi. Tried the, chkdsk, after getting into, "Safe Mode", but the problems are still there and I'm still denied access to the, "Users", folder. Any further help will be appreciated.

Who else uses this PC ? ?someone has changed security settings...
-
No, no-one else but me. I did have this folder locker thing but I uninstalled it.
-
Then re-visit that apps site...sounds like it didn't un-install properly.....
-
Hi.
Although I'm fairly sure it did uninstall ok, I'll reinstall it to check. That's not the only problem. Edge opens then disappears, Picture Manager comes up with, "Microsoft Office Picture Manager has stopped working. A problem cause the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program". And the only option is to close it. This did happen with Outlook too, but since the chkdsk, it's working.

From Mark above...
I would also DLoad and run the Free diagnostics from the HDD manuf....sounds like it's gettin ready to fail...

Reinstalled lock program but it did nothing :(
-
I suppose there's no hope for me then? :(

Thanks but the laptop, although refurbished, is fairly new, (bought this year). Is it possible the hdd will be failing already?

For anyone remotely interested, in the end, only Reset resolved my woes.

We always like to know, most never come back.
Recovery---Reset this PC worked for you?
Usually the Windows tools fail more than they work.
-
Yes, because Reset was the only thing left to try! :(
