can a hard drive from old computer be put into another p.c and data viewed
-
Depends ....
If the drive is not encrypted = YES
If drive is healthy and not damaged = YES
If drive is supported by other computer ( such as IDE vs SATA or SCSI ) = YES
If in addition to all of this, Linux is used as an OS to browse the drives contents if otherwise locked out by Windows set NTFS permissions = YES

If you don't trust her it's time to re-evaluate things...
Or talk directly to her about it.

trying to find out if the wife is up to no good
Like snooping in your Internet history?

no good can come from this...

Many ways to invade privacy, but I am going to stay out of this.
Reasons for not getting involved:
1.) We have been sold problems on a silver platter before that are one thing, but we bite into it and its something else. The cake is a lie. (Portal humor ;D ) ( Basically we are sold a scenario and so we assist under what we believe to be true based on what was said, but the information is used by a hacker who is lacking the skills to pull off the information stealing alone, and so we become involved in a much deeper problem as The Cake is a Lie refers to here as an analogy. )
2.) Ethically its a problem that should be dealt with as simple as sitting down and having a conversation about what you feel might be going on with your partner.
3.) We dont need the drama of her coming here mad at us for helping you spy into her computer use. ::)
