Title: Get rid of the banner at the top
Post by: Geek-9pm on November 09, 2017, 12:36:21 PM
Please look at the attachment. I have blurred  out the personal information. Notice I have placed a brink wall overlay to draw your attention the the banner on the top. This is with Firefox.
I want to get rid of the banner.
This is from my bank. Trying to print a current activity from my bank is a real pain. The print feature thy offer does not work right. The banner is always there and it even overwrites some of the bank statement.
In other words, I can not use the site to print a readable activity statement.
It is that ugly banner at the top of the screen.
I have tried other browsers, but it is still there.
I would change banks, but that is even a bigger pain.
The must be some way to tell the browser not to let the banner force its way to the top of the page. The banner at the top of the page follows when I scroll down. Is there some way to tell the browser I do not want to see the banner?

Yes, I tried talking to my bank. They don't think  it is a problem.  :(

My bank provides a feature whereby you can view statements via PDF, or export statements up to the last business day to an Excel file. Does your bank website provide those sorts of features? Those are easier to make printable.

Otherwise you might try using something like uBlock and selecting to block the banner element by right-clicking.

it's part of your Bank's website code, I don't see that you'd have any control over that at all.

it'll be like saying my bank shows my balance in column 4 but I'd rather it shown in column 3.

Mark, It is a defect in the code or script.
When I try to print  a page, the banner overwrites the top of each page and makes it unreadable. A well-coded banner does not do that.

Which would mean it's not a well coded banner...

Why not copy/paste just the body of the message and move on ? ?

I do copy and paste to get a page I can print and show to my wife. It requires about three screenshots and then a lot of copy and past to remove the banner.
Here is a print preview. (Image size reduced.)

That is what happens when I try for a print preview. That has got to be a program defect. I have never seen any professional site ever do that kind of trash.

I know your have said that you have tried other browsers, but which one is your default and what others have you tried?

I’ve always had Firefox as my default, but every blue moon, i’ll Fire up either SlimJet, Opera or (heaven forbid) bloody Chrome to get the job done on some errant web site that has been poorly written or supported.

Can you not copy and paste by selecting the text itself rather than doing a screenshot? I wouldn't expect the selection to extend to the banner.

I have never seen any professional site ever do that kind of trash.

It is a bank website. They are seldom professional.

Mark,
You are spot on.
Using current version of Chrome **  in Windows 7 64 bit the site works perfectly when printing two pages e of transactions. No banner overwrite on second page.

Problem solved!  :D

** Can not use new version of Chrome in Windows XP.

and on another point - what is with you people and still using XP - I mean, come on, get with the times!!!
(and I say that without malice, implied or inferred, and with a smile on my face)  :D

yeah, yeah, I know you all can give good reasons....  just having a dig.

I'm not disagreeing, XP was great, heck, so was 7.
But what happens when the day comes that (for whatever reason) you are forced onto Win10 (or equivalent)?
Or is the plan of action just to do whatever is necessary to make XP limp along - like in this thread's issue and you can't use the latest Chrome with XP, I mean no biggie, there are work-arounds, but just using that as an example.

just curious...

I'll never retire it at all.

Geek-9pm has a triple boot system as I recall- XP, Windows 10-, and I'm too lazy to find the third. Windows XP is what Geek-9pm is familiar with and he has mentioned he has Windows 10 installed to try to learn it as well. So it's not like he's refusing to even look at anything more recent. And some people are crazy and like to use hardware and software from decades ago for some reason.

In Windows XP I make a extra effort to give each  important folder in 'My Documents' a logo that  shows up when I use the thumbnail view.
And of curse, Windows 10 distorts the logo and puts it on edge. If I wanted it on edge, I would have made it that way.

And then it forgets that I prefer large icons and reverts back to tiny little things that have not visual value at all. In other words, Windows 10 is a non-user HUI  system. It does not want you to recognize anything you have created, only what it wants you to see. I like my own logos and icons better. I know what they mean and why I made them.

By the time Windows XP stops  working altogether, I might have gone to another bank.  ;D

I see no such behavior, i.e. putting the logo assigned to a folder in Documents on Edge,  in Windows 10.

Folder Pictures Definitely work differently on Win10. on WinXP setting a Folder Picture for thumbnail view placed that thumbnail flat in front of the folder image for thumbnail view, on Win10 you can set a Folder Image but it is painted as if it was a piece of "content" within the folder.
